The 1500 series was discontinued during WW II but resurrected sometime between the late 1940s and early 1950s in a 1595 version - slightly larger than the old 1594 reel. These older 1500 series Medalists are Super Rare and quite valuable. Around 1940 these reels transitioned to white plastic spool release covers and white plastic drag adjustment screw heads, and the line guides became square or rectangular. When you look at the handle side of the reel with the foot at the bottom, the line guide appears near the top on the right side - as opposed to the right-hand retrieve 1494 model where the line guide appears near the top on the left side. It featured the metal spool release cover and circular line guide, and it was described as a left-hand retrieve reel. Hey Bill - Pflueger made the 1594 Medalist in at least 3 basic configurations - the 1st one was introduced in the 1929 catalog. ![]()
